See how every team in your org chart is doing

Org Hierarchy builds your org chart from the manager field in your HRIS, then shows engagement, eNPS and participation for each manager's direct reports and for everyone below them.

How the hierarchy gets built

Nothing to draw. Your reporting lines come in with your employee data and stay current on their own.

  1. Reporting lines come in with your employees

Each manager is read from your HRIS, such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, BambooHR or Darwinbox, or from a custom integration. You can also send it by API, SFTP or CSV.

    See integrations
  2. The tree builds and repairs itself

Loops and missing managers are fixed so the chart never breaks, and our team is alerted to correct the source. The current hierarchy rebuilds every night.

  3. Each survey keeps the org as it was

A survey's hierarchy is frozen at launch, so a reorg never moves old results. If lines were wrong at launch, our team can rebuild that survey from a corrected file.

Read results at every level

Start from anyone in the org and move up or down the reporting line.

  1. Jump to a manager opens their place in the chart. Team and Location filters dim the rest.

  2. Overall, participation and driver scores for direct reports or everyone below, with a list of the manager's direct reports, each tagged as an individual contributor, a manager with their own reports, or inactive.

  3. The Lineage Explorer puts the managers under any leader in one heat grid, Direct and Total side by side, with eNPS and any custom eNPS question. Open a manager's lineage to go a level down.

  4. Click any cell for the driver's questions, the spread of answers and the org benchmark. Export the grid to XLSX with the same anonymity rules.

Direct reports and total reports

Every manager's results can be read two ways.

  • Direct is the people who report to the manager. Use it to see how the manager's own team is doing.
  • Total is everyone below the manager, at every level, direct reports included. Use it to see the whole part of the org they lead.
  • Both show in three places: the org chart panel, the Lineage Explorer and the manager's own dashboard.

Anonymity when results are cut by manager

Small teams keep their structure on screen. Their scores stay hidden.

  • Direct and Total are checked separately against your survey's minimum responses, driver by driver.
  • A small scope reads "hidden for anonymity". If the other scope is large enough, you're offered it instead.
  • Names and headcounts always show. Scores never show below the threshold.
  • Exports follow the same rules as the screen, so a download never shows more.

What is org hierarchy in CultureMonkey?

Org Hierarchy is CultureMonkey's org chart view of survey results. It reads each employee's manager from your HRIS or employee data, builds the reporting tree, and shows engagement, eNPS, participation and driver scores for any manager, both for their direct reports and for everyone below them, with anonymity thresholds checked on each cut.

Our team can build the tree from a different field instead of the line manager.

Groups and regions

Scope each company's or region's HR by business unit, group, location or team.

Leavers

A manager who leaves stays in the tree while people still report to them.

Access

Who sees what

Managers get their own team's results. The org chart stays with HR. Scope sub admins with role-based access.

After the survey

From results to action

Boost Participation emails the managers whose teams haven't answered yet.

For managers

Focus areas and actions

Each manager sees strengths, focus areas and their assigned actions on their dashboard, plus how comments on each driver split between positive, mixed and negative, without showing any comment text.

For leadership

Manager effectiveness

Rank managers against the org median and like-for-like peers, and see who improved since the last survey. See manager effectiveness.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the org hierarchy come from our HRIS?

Yes. CultureMonkey reads each employee's manager from your HRIS integration or a custom integration, and you can also send it by API, SFTP or CSV. The current hierarchy rebuilds every night, so manager changes show the next day.

What happens to results after a reorg?

Each survey keeps the hierarchy from its launch day, so results stay with the team people were in when they answered. The current view follows today's org.

What is the difference between direct and total reports?

Direct reports report to the manager. Total reports are everyone below them at every level, direct reports included.

How is anonymity protected for small teams?

Direct and Total are checked separately against the survey's minimum responses, driver by driver. Below it, scores are hidden; names and headcounts still show, and exports follow the same rules.

Can managers see the org chart?

No. The org chart and Lineage Explorer are for admins. Managers see their own team's results on their dashboard, for direct reports or everyone below them.

Can each company in our group see only its own results?

Yes. Give each company's HR a sub admin scope by business unit, business group, location or team, and they see the hierarchy only within it.

Can someone have two managers, or a dotted line?

No. Each employee has one manager in the hierarchy. For project or matrix organizations, our team can build the tree from a different field instead of the line manager.

What if our HRIS data is messy?

Loops and missing managers are repaired so the chart never breaks, and our team is alerted to fix the source. If reporting lines were wrong when a survey launched, our team can rebuild that survey's hierarchy from a corrected file.

Can I open a survey's results straight in the org chart?

Yes. Every survey report has an "Open this survey in Org Hierarchy" link in its header, which opens the org chart with that survey already selected.

Does it work for lifecycle and onboarding surveys?

No. Org Hierarchy covers employee surveys. Lifecycle results have their own view in employee lifecycle analytics.
