Methodology

Source. Every figure is aggregated from real employee survey responses collected on the CultureMonkey platform, around 11 million responses across 18 industries, 5 regions and 4 company-size tiers, 20 quarters from 2021 Q3 to 2026 Q2 (the latest complete quarter). No panels, no purchased or synthetic data. Aggregates only: no company is identifiable and no raw responses are published.
Scales. Engagement is a composite of rating questions, reported on a 0-10 scale. eNPS follows the standard calculation on the question "how likely are you to recommend this company as a place to work?" (0-10): Promoters answer 9-10, Passives 7-8, Detractors 0-6. eNPS = % Promoters − % Detractors, giving a −100..+100 scale. The two are reported side by side, never combined on one axis.
Distribution. Percentiles are computed across companies, not across individual employees: each company contributes one value per benchmark cut (its own mean or eNPS), so "top 25%" means top quartile of peer companies.
Coverage. All 18 industries, 5 regions and 4 company-size tiers are benchmarked, from CultureMonkey's own aggregated survey data. Coverage grows with every quarterly refresh.
Refresh. Benchmarks are recomputed quarterly from the latest data extract (this one: July 2026). Historical values are never restated silently, each quarterly release records what changed.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01
What is the average employee engagement score in 2026?

Across CultureMonkey's benchmark dataset, 18 industries, 5 regions and 4 company-size tiers, the median engagement score is 8.1 and the average is 8.05, both on a 0-10 scale. Companies range from 7.38 at the 10th percentile to 8.71 at the 90th. Percentiles are computed across companies, each company contributes one value, from around 11 million employee survey responses collected since 2021 Q3, refreshed every quarter.

02
What is a good employee engagement score?

On the 0-10 scale CultureMonkey reports, the median company scores 8.1, so anything above that is above average. The top quartile of companies starts at 8.44 and the top 10% start at 8.71; the bottom quartile sits below 7.75. Percentiles are computed across companies, each contributing one value, so "top quartile" means the top quarter of employers in the Q2 2026 benchmark rather than the top quarter of employees.

03
What is a good eNPS score?

In CultureMonkey's Q2 2026 data, the median eNPS is +27 on the −100..+100 scale (% Promoters, scoring 9-10, minus % Detractors, scoring 0-6). Common practice treats 10-30 as good and 50-70 as excellent, which places the typical benchmark company in the good zone. The top quartile of CultureMonkey's benchmark companies sits above +44; scores below 0 mean more detractors than promoters.

04
Where does this benchmark data come from?

Real employee survey responses from CultureMonkey customers. No synthetic panels or purchased data. Aggregates only; no customer names or raw responses in the public extract. The benchmark covers around 11 million responses across 18 industries, 5 regions and 4 company-size tiers over 20 quarters (2021 Q3 to 2026 Q2, the latest complete quarter). Benchmarks are recomputed each quarter and each release records what changed.

05
How do engagement scores and eNPS relate?

In CultureMonkey's Q2 2026 data the two measures largely move together, regions rank in the same order on the 0-10 engagement scale and the −100..+100 eNPS scale, with one exception among company sizes where Enterprise leads engagement but Mid-Market leads eNPS. They remain different instruments, engagement is a composite of survey drivers, while eNPS captures willingness to recommend the employer, so both are reported side by side, never averaged.
