Keeping your Peakon scores comparable after you switch

What happens to the engagement score your leadership tracks, why the number moves, and how past rounds are carried across so the trend continues.

The number

Will the engagement score drop after the move?

  • Our team converts past Peakon rounds to CultureMonkey scoring. Historical scores are converted to the same scale and method as your new results, so the trend line stays consistent across the switch.
  • Without conversion, the raw number would move on calculation alone. Peakon averages four standard engagement questions per person over a 3, 6 or 12-month window on 0 to 10. CultureMonkey averages every rating answer on five points.
  • Workday is moving Peakon to a new model that recalculates scores. Workday plans to recalculate past scores under its new 90-question model when your account upgrades, so the numbers leadership has seen will change either way.
Like for like

Which score carries over like for like?

  • The recommend question is the one score you can carry over. Peakon’s core question and CultureMonkey’s standard eNPS ask nearly the same question on the same 0 to 10 scale, so recomputed from your exported answers, the line continues.
  • Both use the same groups and the same formula. Answers of 9 or 10 count as promoters, 7 or 8 as passives and 0 to 6 as detractors. The score is promoters minus detractors.
  • Peakon’s own eNPS view is a different number. It averages each person’s engagement answers before grouping them, so it is not the recommend question on its own. Recompute past rounds from the raw answers to the recommend question instead.
Mapping

How do Peakon questions map to CultureMonkey drivers?

  • Each migrated question is assigned to one driver, usually one of the fifteen defaults. Our team proposes the mapping from your Peakon question set, you agree the final version, and past rounds are converted against the same drivers.
  • A survey uses default drivers or custom drivers, never both together. That decision is made once per survey and it constrains everything after it, so decide which of your Peakon drivers map onto the standard set before you start building.
  • Agree the mapping before your first survey goes out. Settling each question’s driver before launch keeps every round on the same footing, so past and new results read against the same drivers from the start.
Trend

Can past rounds sit on the same trend line?

  • Our team converts past rounds to CultureMonkey scoring. Past rounds sit beside your new results on the same scale, so a question asked on Peakon and again here reads as one line.
  • The per-question figures you exported make this possible. A rendered report cannot be charted, so export the underlying figures before Peakon access ends. That one step decides how much of the trend you keep.
  • Annotate the switch on the chart rather than explaining it in a meeting. A marked step that says what changed reads as rigour. An unexplained step in a board chart reads as a problem with the data.

Illustrative trend.

Note to leadership

Send this before the first CultureMonkey results.

Workday is moving Peakon to a new question model and plans to recalculate past scores, so the numbers we have reported will change either way. From [month], our engagement survey runs on CultureMonkey instead, and our past rounds have been converted to CultureMonkey scoring so the trend continues. The recommend question is asked almost word for word on both platforms, on the same 0 to 10 scale, so it is the figure we can compare most directly. We will report participation alongside every score.

Leadership

What should leadership hear before the first results?

  • Say the number will move before it moves, and say why. Peakon’s 0 to 10 answers become five-point answers shown out of 10 here. Getting that into the room first turns a surprise into a footnote.
  • Commit to the trend and refuse to defend the absolute. Tell them past rounds are converted to CultureMonkey scoring, so the trend reads across the switch. Nobody argues with that framing if they hear it in advance.
  • Name participation as a variable rather than waiting to be asked. If candour changes, the score changes with it. A committee that has heard this reads a movement as information; one that has not reads it as a failure.
What changes

What works differently after the move?

Matched

  • The recommend question and eNPS formula
  • Results tied to the org when people answered
  • Anonymous comment conversations

Different

  • How the engagement score is calculated
  • A five-point scale, shown out of 10
  • Fewer benchmark comparisons than Peakon

Not available

  • A reason when someone skips a question
  • Benchmarks on custom-driver questions, by default

Comparing the field first? Our roundup of Peakon alternatives covers it. The mapping work on this page is the same whichever you pick.

FAQ

Other questions about Peakon scores

After the switch

What an executive committee asks in the first readout.

Will our engagement score drop when we leave Workday Peakon?
It will move, because the calculation and the scale both change. Peakon averages four standard engagement questions per person over a 3, 6 or 12-month window, on 0 to 10. CultureMonkey averages every rating answer in the survey, on a five-point scale shown out of 10 by default. Our team converts your past rounds to CultureMonkey scoring so the comparison is fair.
How do Peakon drivers map to CultureMonkey drivers?
Our team proposes the mapping. Each migrated question is assigned to one of CultureMonkey's 15 drivers, and you agree the final version before your first survey launches. Peakon sub-drivers can be kept as a custom attribute on your history.
Do custom-driver questions get benchmarks?
Not by default. Questions on CultureMonkey's default drivers appear in benchmark comparisons; the benchmark view is off for custom-driver surveys, so map to the default drivers where you can.
Can the score be shown out of 100 instead of 10?
Yes. An account can show rating scores out of 10, out of 5 or as a percentage, and the setting applies across the account. eNPS always stays on its own -100 to +100 scale.
Why might the score move even if nothing changed?
Because the overall score is a flat average of every rating answer in scope, so who answers changes the number. If participation or candour shifts between platforms, the score shifts with it. That is worth naming in the first readout as a known variable.
